How It Works

  1. Checkout Process:
    • Decide on the number of teams for your group (up to 4 teams or 20 participants) and select the appropriate booking option. There’s no additional charge for teams, but there are minor changes to the backend configurations.
    • During checkout, select the number of activation codes needed—each activation code corresponds to one device.
    • After purchase, you’ll receive a single email with instructions and activation codes. Your order will only allow the number of purchased devices to join the tour.
  2. Instructions:
    • You’ll receive an email with detailed instructions, including:
      • Parking options near the Santa Fe Plaza.
      • What to bring for the tour (e.g., fully charged mobile phones).
      • A unique QR code corresponding to your order to begin the tour.
    • Please allow up to 15 minutes for the email to arrive after purchase.
  3. Starting the Tour:
    • Starting the tour is easy. Simply have each participant scan the QR code provided in your email to begin!
    • The Santa Fe Plaza tour begins at the Santa Fe Plaza, a central location convenient for guests staying at downtown hotels or parking nearby.
    • Each team must include at least one adult, and team members can be chosen informally before starting.
    • The tour is limited to 6 hours from the time you start. Once the time limit expires, the tour will time out.
    • For the best experience, plan to start at least 2 hours before dark to fully enjoy the route and points of interest.
  4. Activating Your Codes:
    • Player codes can be activated on-site when you’re ready to start the tour.
    • Only the number of purchased activation codes will be allowed to join, so plan your group size and device usage in advance.
    • If you need to adjust your order, please do so in advance to ensure a smooth experience.

After the Tour Ends

As a courtesy, all participants will have the option to download a digital copy of the 30 points of interest, complete with detailed information about each location, to continue exploring Santa Fe’s history and culture at their leisure.

Enjoy an unforgettable journey through Santa Fe’s past and present, one clue at a time!

FAQs

How is the Self Guided Tour different from the Mobile Scavenger Hunt?

Great question! Think of them as two different ways to explore Santa Fe—both fun, but with a different vibe.

🔹 The Mobile Scavenger Hunt is for those who love a little friendly competition! It’s timed and competitive, challenging teams to race against the clock (and each other) to solve clues and complete tasks. The route is structured but randomized, meaning teams won’t follow the same path—so you don’t have to worry about being tailgated by your rivals! It’s fast-paced, high-energy, and designed to keep you on your toes.

🔹 The Self-Guided Tour is a more relaxed experience. There’s no competition, and you have up to 6 hours to complete it at your own pace. This tour follows an optimized route from one checkpoint to the next, giving you plenty of time to soak in the history and surroundings. But don’t be fooled—this isn’t just a passive stroll! The tour still asks thought-provoking questions and gives cryptic clues to guide you along the way. So bring sunscreen and your thinking cap—you’ll need both!

Both experiences visit the same checkpoints and include a built-in map to help you navigate. The scavenger hunt keeps things snappy with quick, to-the-point clues and fun-facts, while the self-guided tour dives deeper into Santa Fe’s rich history, providing more context, stories and photographs at each stop. The interactive format of both experiences engages your brain, making discoveries more memorable. You’ll find that solving clues and uncovering hidden details helps you retain what you learn—long after your adventure is over.

So, whether you’re in it to win it or just want to wander and wonder, we’ve got an experience for you! 🏆🚶‍♂️🔎

What is the price of the tour?

The tour is just $20 per device—a great value for an unforgettable Santa Fe adventure!

We recommend purchasing an activation code for each player old enough to have and use their own phone. Otherwise, it’s like trying to explain a documentary covering hundreds of years of Santa Fe history, scene by scene. That’s no fun for anyone, and the true stories get lost in the interpretation.

Don’t leave your best players behind! Give everyone a chance to read, scout, learn, and contribute to the team with their own device. Our interactive maps, historical photos, and Fun Facts make learning Santa Fe’s history fun and create lasting memories for everyone! 🚶‍♂️📱🔎

Is the tour good for kids and families?

Absolutely! The tour is designed around 7th and 8th grade history standards, covering both New Mexico State history and US history. It’s an interactive and engaging way for kids to learn while having fun, making it great for families.

One thing we’ve learned, when kids are happy, e’rybody’s happy!  For the best experience, each participant should use their own device to fully enjoy the interactive elements. Keep in mind, access is limited to the number of paid devices.

What happens after I order?

Great question! After you order, we’ll email you your first clue within 10 minutes. Inside, you’ll find answers to all your burning questions—like where to park, what to bring, and how to prepare—plus a few things you didn’t think to ask. For example, “Where are the outhouses in Santa Fe?” (Spoiler: there aren’t many, but we’ve got you covered.)

Keep an eye on your inbox, promotions folder, or even the spam folder (sometimes our emails go on their own self-guided tours before reaching you). If it’s hiding, call it back with a quick search for Discover Santa Fe. Then, get ready for a journey through Santa Fe’s past and present—one clue at a time! 🚶‍♂️🔎

Can we start the tour whenever we want?

Yes! We recommend starting near your reservation time, but you’re free to begin earlier or later if needed.

If your plans change and you need to switch dates, no problem! Just click the ‘reschedule’ button in your confirmation email to adjust your tour.

For the best experience, we suggest starting at least 2 hours before sunset so you have plenty of daylight to comfortably explore, search for hidden clues, and take in the sights along the way! 🌞🔎🚶‍♂️

How long does the tour take?

Plan on about 2 hours, depending on how fast you walk, read, and solve the interactive clues. We’ve built in extra time to shop, explore, or grab a bite, but once you start, there’s no turning back (or refunds), so be sure to finish what you’ve started!

Santa Fe is full of fascinating distractions, but staying focused on the tour will enhance your dining and shopping experience. It’s the perfect introduction to the City Different, leading you to hidden restaurants, shops, galleries, museums, and more to revisit later!

Expect to walk about 2 miles—a great way to burn off a few calories from Santa Fe’s world-famous sopapillas! 😋🚶‍♂️

Is the tour dog-friendly?

Yes, it is! Feel free to bring Fido, Fifi, Fluffy, Buffy, and Buddy along for the adventure. 🐶 But keep in mind—what looks like the perfect grassy spot for Scooby is likely Cathedral Park, home to 1,200–2,000 unmarked graves dating back centuries.

Out of respect for Santa Fe’s rich history (and those resting beneath its surface), please keep your dog on a leash at all times and pick up after them. Many stops along the route are historic landmarks, sacred sites, or cultural treasures, so be mindful of where those paws step.

With a little care and consideration, you, Biscuit, Muffin, and Waffles can enjoy the journey together! 🦴🐾🚶‍♂️

What is your refund policy?

The tour is non-refundable, but we’re flexible! If you can’t use it, you can gift it to a lucky friend as long as the activation codes haven’t been used.

Just forward them your “Getting Started” email, which includes everything they need—important details, unique activation codes, and FAQs—so they can embark on their own Santa Fe adventure. 🚶‍♂️🔎🎁

Can we drive or ride bikes along the route?

Short answer? Nope! Santa Fe’s streets have a mind of their own—one-way roads, uneven sidewalks, and surprise steps lurking where you least expect them. Some streets were laid out long before the Spanish even introduced horses and ox-carts to North America, so let’s just say… they weren’t exactly designed with bikes and cars in mind. 🚗❌🚲

But honestly? Walking is the best way to experience Santa Fe. You’ll notice hidden details, colorful murals, centuries-old adobe walls, and local artisans that you’d miss zooming by.  And of course, safety first—navigating on foot means you can focus on the journey, not on steering around pedestrians, Biscuit, Muffin, or Waffles. 🐶🐾

So lace up those walking shoes—Santa Fe is best experienced one step at a time! 🚶‍♂️🔎
